“What is hidden behind a face? What does a photo say?I want something, maybe something in myself. A secret, several.Can I trust the expression, what does it say?
I borrowed faces from photos I found in magazines, online and in photo albums. Each face is a mix of several different people.I strive for expression, not likeness.
I find a photo of a person that catches my eye. Starting to paint. Halfway through the process, I switch to another photo of a completely different person and continue. A portrait can consist of many different faces that form their own expression.”
