Bengt Nordberg Sommargalleriet 2026 July 11 – August 1

With Sommargalleriet, CU Gallery is spotlighting one of the artists who previously participated in our group exhibition MIKRO. MIKRO is an exhibition where, every year before Christmas, we open the gallery to up to a hundred artists who contribute small-format artworks. An artist once called MIKRO “a celebration of art.” And it certainly provides a large number of artists with the opportunity to participate on equal terms in a context that lies outside the niche selection that otherwise characterizes a gallery’s activities. To further celebrate art, we therefore want to use Sommargalleriet to highlight one of the artists who participated in this past Christmas’s MIKRO with a solo exhibition in July.
This year , the choice has fallen on Bengt Nordberg, who has devoted a large part of his long life to depicting Gothenburg in expressive, colorful paintings. Today, he is quite unique in his approach to capturing scenes where the cityscape takes center stage. People are not absent, but they are rarely numerous. Often, they are represented instead by streetcars or parked bicycles. Streetcars, in particular, hold a special place in Nordberg’s heart, as is evident in many of his paintings.
Bengt Nordberg (b. 1938) works primarily in oil and watercolor, and in the 1970s studied at classic Gothenburg painting schools such as Hovedskous, Dômen, and Gustavus Primus. He also pursued further studies at what was then the School of Arts, Crafts, and Design (HDK), and studied in Bricquebec, Normandy. Over the years, his works have been exhibited at countless galleries throughout Sweden, as well as in France, where he has often sought inspiration. His work is represented, among other places, at the Karlskrona Maritime Museum, the municipalities of Borgholm and Ljungby, and the Gothenburg Tram Museum, as well as in private collections in Sweden and around the world.
