Jag tänker på en plats

Opening reception on Saturday, September 12, at 12 p.m.

“I think of a forest, a mountain, an ocean.
I think of what has been, what is, and what may come.
I think of the untouched and coexistence,
of the quiet and the roaring.”

I paint the child, the place, and memories that are personal,
but which, in their encounter with you, can change and become something else
—a place of your own, a memory of your own, a story of your own.” Frida Wernersson

Frida Wernersson was born in 1979 in Ödeshög and is based in Gothenburg.
Frida studied at the Nordic School of Scenography and the art program at Sörängen Folk High School. She completed an apprenticeship as a set painter at the Gothenburg City Theater and works professionally as a prop maker.
In her artistic practice, she is interested in what has been, what is present, and what has not yet happened. Through a painterly approach, Wernersson explores memories, the future, the present, and events—and how these perspectives can converge in the image and the object.

“Maybe it’s just any ordinary day.
Or a special day, a moment.
A dock, rain gear and a sou’wester, a dead bird.
The boats.
And an entire universe.

Like a snapshot, or a fragment,
of reality
where everything happens in parallel
the feeling and atmosphere
the concrete events,
the plot.

Childhood, or the memory of it,
life, and death
friendship or some kind of
community
and at the same time loneliness
existential
such

The place where the magpie lay dead
It’s not the same place as
where he was buried
Maybe that place exists only in my memory now.
Or not even there.”
